The Arts

The MLS Arts Department creates for students the opportunity to develop understanding, skills, and values related to the performing arts. MLS offers a variety of opportunities for students to participate in music, theater, and the fine arts, using their gifts to the glory of their Lord and Savior.

Praise the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens. Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness. Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings and pipe, praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. (Psalm 150)

Mixed Choirs

There are four mixed choruses on campus: Freshman Chorus, Sophomore Chorus, Chapel Choir, and Concert Choir. The students experience singing God’s praises in a balanced group of four or more mixed parts. Students have an opportunity to learn to sing a cappella and with instrumental accompaniment. These choruses give students experience for congregational singing and choirs.

Concert Choir

The voices of the MLS Concert Choir practice four times each week and sing in WELS congregations around Michigan as often as twice a month.  Juniors and seniors audition for membership.  In even-numbered years the choir makes an extended tour outside of Michigan during the Easter holiday. Check to see if the choir will be performing near you. Click here for a full Concert Choir Schedule.

The Shadows

The Shadows are twelve voices selected from the ranks of the Concert Choir performing a variety of a cappella music as a recruitment arm of MLS.

The MLS Cardinal Band

The MLS Cardinal Band practices three times weekly. There is a band concert each spring, along with performances at the Christmas and Commencement Concerts. The Pep Band, drawn from the band membership, plays at athletic events. As time and talent permit, MLS also assembles small musical groups to perform at various school functions.

The Handbell Team plays at all major concerts and enhance the morning chapel services.

Court Street Players (CSP)

Court Street Players (CSP) is a group of individuals who are interested in the theater arts. Students have opportunities to experience live theater with trips to different venues during the year. Members participate in numerous capacities during the major theatrical production in the spring of the year by acting, singing, stage painting, audio, make-up, hair, or stage crew.

MLS presents a musical in odd-numbered years. Past performances include musicals such as "Crazy for You" and "Wizard of Oz".

MLS presents a play in even-numbered years. Past performances include plays such as “You Can't Take It With You” and “I Remember Mama".
